Once again, in 2009 we feel honored by the presence of the finest and most celebrated artists we can think of. In particular, that goes for special guest in our festival; Leo Brouwer, who will celebrate his 70th anniversary this year! He will not only be here to give master classes, but also to conduct one of his guitar concertos (premiere in the Netherlands)! That will happen during a concert around the work of Leo Brouwer, on November 8. Soloist will be Florian Moritz, who was the 1st prize winner in our competition in 2008.

But……… that will not be the only concert for guitar & orchestra in our festival! The Dutch composer Aron Wolff Berlijn wrote a concerto in 1839, for guitar & orchestra. This concert was rediscovered by former- member of the Amsterdam Guitar Trio, Olga Franssen. In our festival the “modern première“ of this fine concerto. Soloist will be Machteld den Boer, who won the 2nd prize in 2008 in our festival.

De production of these concerto's will be realized in cooperation with the professional orchestra Musica Michaëlis, conducted by Toon Hagen. The orchestra was founded in 2008!

Leo Brouwer's 70th anniverary in 2009! November 4-8 2009; the 41st edition of the International Guitarfestival Zwolle!
